hunters wine tasting & supper

with Peter McDonald

Thursday 22nd April 2010, 7.30 for 8pm

£25

We are delighted to welcome Hunter's General Mananger Peter McDonald back to DWS.  Big in stature, somewhat larger than life and with a huge passion for all that he takes on, Peter is committed to the worldwide success of Hunter's Wines.

In the last 20 years the province of Marlborough has moved from virtual obscurity to become New Zealand’s largest and best-known wine region with a reputation for producing some of the world’s finest sauvignon blanc. This huge potential was something that was recognised back in 1983 by Jane Hunter and her late husband Ernie when they founded their first fledgling winery in the picturesque Wairau Valley.

Hunter’s Wines have won more than 100 gold medals at national and international wine competitions.  With a reputation for consistently producing the highest quality wines year after year, Hunter’s was one of the first wineries to put Marlborough firmly on the New Zealand wine map.

Join Peter for a great chance to taste the stunning wines of Hunter’s award winning range.

Domaine des Anges Logo

Wine Tasting & Supper

with Ciaran Rooney

Tuesday 4th May 2010 7.30 for 8pm

£25

Domaine des Anges, in the Cotes du Ventoux, is situated on a hillside facing Mont Ventoux, "The Giant of Provence" which rises to 1912m in altitude. The mountain has a profound influence on the climate of the vineyards with cool evening breezes refreshing the vines in summer after the day's intense heat, enabling the vines to maintain high natural acids and elegant tannins.

The wines are made by master craftsman, Ciaran Rooney. A native of Dublin, Ciaran's family moved to South Africa whilst he was still at school. He studied Oenology & Viticulture at Stellenbosch University before going on to gain international experience in Lafite Rothschild, Tim Knappstein Wines, Tyrells, New Kumeu River, Argyle Wines, Cakebread Cellars & Thelema, among others.

We are delighted to welcome Ciaran back to DWS, and we wish him good luck as he and various members of the DWS staff take part in the Belfast Marathon the previous day.  This will be an exciting opportunity to taste this range of wines first hand with the man who made them, and which Robert Parker claimed were

"The best wines being made in the region" (Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate).

DOMAINE SAINTE EUGENIE

WINE TASTING & SUPPER

Thursday 10th June 2010 7.30 for 8pm

£25

LeClosThe 60-hectare estate of Domaine Sainte Eugènie is located in the ancient winemaking village of Bizanet, between Narbonne and Carcassonne, in the heart of A.O.C. Corbières. The roman ruins, medieval abbeys, and Cathar castles that dot the local landscape bear witness to the rich history that shaped this area of Languedoc-Roussillon.

Originally founded in 1906, Domaine Sainte Eugènie was purchased in 2001 by the current owners Hervè Gantier (Sales & Marketing Director) and Josè Ratero (Winemaker). Long-time friends, the two first met in Burgundy in the early nineties, where they quickly discovered a shared passion for great wine.

Their dream to create and bottle their own elegant, terroir-driven wines finally led them to the untamed land of Corbières. There they found Sainte Eugènie with its antique cellar and pristine old vines of local varietals planted on the renowned terroir of Fontfroide. The result is a brilliant combination of Burgundian savoir-faire with Languedoc terroir. In a region steeped in history and tradition, today a new story has begun.

Export manager Megan Daily makes sure that story is told far and wide. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Megan joined the Sainte Eugènie team in late 2007, following her own dream to work in the French wine industry. After a 6-year stint as a Chemical Engineer for a U.S. plastics manufacturer, she gave it all up for love, of wine that is, particularly French. A serendipitous meeting with Hervè and Josè during a tasting trip in 2005 first brought her to the Corbières and to Domaine Sainte Eugènie. She immediately fell under the spell of the region and the wines, and the rest, as they say, is history.

We look forward to welcoming Megan on her first visit to Direct Wine Shipments .
