SATURDAY 6TH DECEMBER 2008
Can you think of a more pleasurable way to spend a Saturday afternoon in the madness of December? Ok... maybe there are some more attractive alternatives, but they probably cost a lot more than £15!
This will be a great opportunity to taste a selection of traditional andmore eclectic recommendations for the festive period. The aim of this tasting and discussion is to highlight wines that pair well with the festive fair.
An informal and fun journey through the minefield that is Christmas entertaining.

Thomas McAlindon's latest book
Two Brothers, Two Wars
published by The Lilliput Press
Thursday 6th November 2008, 7.30pm
Direct Wine Shipments Tasting Hall
The author's namesake uncle, Tom McAlindon, joined the Royal Irish Rifles in 1908 aged seventeen and fought on the Western Front from August 1914 until late 1918. He died agonizingly from dysentery in a military hospital in the south of England, to which his mother and eleven-year-old brother Denis had made the grim journey to be with him. The sight of his beloved and admired brother dying in such distress seemed likely to haunt Denis forever.
Years later Denis became a missionary priest in Burma. In 1941 the Japanese routed the British army there and captured his fellow priests, but his remote mission station remained undiscovered. In that sense he was untouched by World War II; yet this war recruited his active compassion, and did so in such a way that he finally laid to rest his ghost of Tom.
Drawing on family recollections, letters, military records and memoirs, and archives, the author tells a strange and moving story about the early life and war experiences of his two uncles, a story with symmetry of a kind seldom found in the haphazard events of real life; a story too about war and its horrors that finally consoles.
The evening will, of course, be accompanied by a glass or two of wine.

WITH DAVID LING
THURSDAY 16TH OCTOBER
Alsace, a treasure trove of all varieties of white wine, produces one of the widest ranges from any wine region in the world.
Since 1639 the Hugel family has been producing some of France's finest white wines. Today the business is run by 5 members of the Hugel family (the 11th and 12th generations) and is still 100% family-owned.
DWS was delighted to welcome back David Ling, Hugel's Englishman abroad, who will guided us along this fantastic range of wines.
