Our Vineyard - Priorat
Creu Celta is made by an Irish Wine Family from Belfast in Northern Ireland. For nearly a century three generations of the McAlindon family have been purveyors and importers of wine to the island of Ireland.

There have been a stream of Irish wine families over the past few centuries making wine in Europe and the New World.
In 2003 the McAlindon’s dream to buy their own vineyards and make their own wine became a reality.
The vineyards are found in Priorat (meaning Priory), North Eastern Spain near the Scala Dei Monastry (meaning ‘Ladder to God’).
This area today produces some of Europe’s most inspiring reds. In the 12th century the Carthusian monks built a priory thus giving the name to the region. It is a very special place and a virtual viticultural paradise.
The McAlindons work with one of Spain’s leading winemakers. Silvia Puig has made wine with some
of the best Spanish wineries including the legendary Vega Sicilia.
The symbol for Creu Celta (meaning ‘Celtic Cross’ in Catalan) is inspired by the exceptional 15th Century
High Cross found on Devenish Island, Country Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
The Vineyard...
The vineyard has good aspect and is situated in one of the coolest parts of the region. Grapes are often harvested 4 weeks later than those from the hotter parts of Priorat. The vineyard has the regions’ traditionally compacted slate and quartz soil (llicorella) in abundance.
This difficult terrain, plus the hot and dry conditions make establishing new vines a difficult business. However, once the young vines have been established, the naturally low yields result in high quality grapes of some complexity.
As the vines are grown on small terraces all grapes are hand harvested. Our goal is to maintain an environmentally sustainable vineyard, therefore no herbicides or pesticides are used.
